The retail price was 1695. Unraced unabused nearly unused. They decided to dabble in the world of motocross and had their Italian branch Aermacchi build the Harley-Davidson MX250.
The 242cc Aermacchi-built engine was housed in a chromoly frame built by Champion and the whole package hit the scales at 212 pounds. When introduced in 1977 the MX250 was lethal weapon which took on the others and won. Amazingly Bruce Ogilvie won the 1975 Baja 500 on one.
This port inducted two-stroke engine offered a lot more power than the old CR250 four-stroke and saved a few pounds as well. 250cc offroad rivals to Harleys SX250. Harley came out with another dirt bike further into the 70s 250 I think but by then the Japanese onslaught of killer motocross bikes had taken over not sure where Can Ams were built.
